Security
As with all financial transactions, you want to be sure that your information doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
Legit online casinos employ top-class security measures to ensure your data is safe.
The likes of Apple Pay require you to use your fingerprint which adds an extra layer of security. But there are other ways to ensure secure transaction takes place.
In our casino reviews, you’ll notice that this is one of our main reasons for giving our seal of approval.
Transaction Times
Key insight: The average withdrawal time to a debit card is 3-5 working days.
Getting funds to and from your account in a timely manner is another essential. Online casino sites are upfront about how long transactions should expect to take.
Of course, this mostly lies with which method you choose. Bank transfers take long both ways, where the likes of PayPal are instant for deposits and super quick for withdrawals.
These times are important, perhaps more for withdrawals. If some sites can guarantee you instant access to your funds while others can’t, then it’s something to be aware of.
Fees
Key insight: You should be made aware of all fees before a transaction is processed.
No-one likes to encounter unexpected fees. While most online casinos won’t charge fees for transactions, it’s always best to double-check.
If you’re requesting a bank transfer it’s worth checking with the bank in question, as they may impose fees on their own.
Fees can also occur on multiple withdrawals, or if you request an amount above a set threshold. We’ll highlight any fees you might come across in all of our reviews.
Deposit/Withdrawal Limits
Key insight: Limits can be daily, weekly, or by amount.
It’s not something players tend to think about too much, but there are limits on both deposits and withdrawals. Most methods have decent limits, but it does vary.
Qualify for Bonuses
Key insight: Very few online casinos allow all payment methods to qualify for a welcome bonus.
When you sign up for a new online casino, chances are that you’ll want to claim the welcome bonus. One of the biggest restrictions applies to payment methods.
You’re hard pushed to find an online casino that accepts Skrill or Neteller for example. So it’s something to be mindful of.

What Types of E-Wallets Are There?
Many players opt to use an e-wallet to fund their account. At legit, we’re big fans of these too. There are a number of reasons for this:
- Safe and secure
- Speedy
- Easy to use
- Efficient
Because they add an extra layer of security is the biggest factor for us. The most popular e-wallets are PayPayl, Skrill and Neteller. Let’s look at each in a bit more detail.
PayPal
PayPal is widely regarded as one of the most secure ways to perform financial transactions online. However, it’s likely not the first thing you think of for funding your online casino account. In fact, it’s only really been introduced to the UK online casino market in recent years.
The downside, therefore, is that it’s not available to use on all sites. In saying that, the number has been climbing and there are plenty of legit casinos that will now happily accept PayPal.
How to Deposit
- Log into a legit casino and open the deposit page
- Select PayPal and enter the amount
- You will now be asked for your email address and password for your PayPal account
- And that’s it. The funds will be transferred from PayPal to your casino wallet instantly
Skrill as a Payment Method
Most sites accept Skrill because it is synonymous with online casinos, and is regarded as the first e-wallet for betting purposes.
Funds are processed instantly, safely and it’s very suited to the industry.
The downside is that it is usually omitted from bonus offers. This includes welcome bonuses and on-going promotions. This is a really unfortunate downside.
Casino operators found that there was a lot of bonus abuse by players who deposited with this method. It’s likely that players using Skrill aren’t new to betting so to cover themselves, online casinos simply put a blanket ban on Skrill players claiming bonuses.
If you’re not interested in bonuses, it’s an excellent option though. There’s more to this payment method than meets the eye including almost 40 different currencies and a card. Find out more about it on our dedicated page.
Neteller
Neteller offers a very similar service to Skrill. It has taken a good chunk of the e-wallet market and is trusted throughout the UK and beyond.
The big difference is that you can earn reward points and other cool perks.
As with Skrill, however, bonuses are hard to come by if you chose this method. Find out more about the cool perks here.

Paysafecard
This falls into a similar category, although it’s not quite the same. It’s a prepaid card that you buy from a land-based store. The card contains a 16-digit code. Enter the code when prompted in the deposit page.
There is no chance of your financial data being at risk with this as you never enter any to the site. Sounds good, but withdrawals are not possible. You would need to withdrawal via bank transfer which can be timely.
What About Cards?
Using a debit card is arguably the most common payment method. It can be used for both deposits and withdrawals and doesn’t require you to open an extra account.
You simply use your normal bank account and have a clear overview of what’s going in and out.
Withdrawal times can also be a bit longer than other methods. You’ll likely be waiting 3-5 working days before your withdrawal hits your account. So, if you withdraw on a Friday you could be waiting an entire week.
Key insight: Credit cards are no longer accepted at UK Online Casinos. This was a bill passed by the UK Gambling Commission in April 2020.
Bank Transfer
Bank transfer is comparable to paying with something with a cheque. You still can, but it’s very rarely used, especially for deposits. With most people having a debit card with their bank account they can move their money more freely.
If you want to use a bank transfer, you need to do so through your bank and can take several days to get to your casino wallet. The same is true for withdrawals.
Using Your Phone for Deposits
Many of us have our bank cards stored on our phones making physical transactions with the touch of our fingertips. It’s no surprise therefore that this is moving to online transactions too.
A number of online casinos will now accept deposits via Apple Pay and Google Pay (Gpay).
Apple Pay
This is exclusively for Apple users. So, you’ll need an iPhone, iPad or MacBook to use this. It works in very much the same way as a contactless payment with your phone in a shop.
You’ll be prompted to press your home button with your fingertip to complete the payment. This method, therefore, is really safe. Even if someone gets into your account, they’ll need your fingerprint. This is excellent for peace of mind.
As Apple Pay is linked to the bank account you chose, most online casinos also allow this method for bonuses. It’s becoming widely available and we can see it growing more in the future.
Gpay
GPay is the google equivalent of Apple Pay. You can use it on any device (including Apple products) and perform transactions in the same way.
Despite being arguably bigger than Apple Pay, it’s less widely available. But, in a similar vein to Apple Pay, we can see it growing.

Document Requests at Online Casinos

Who? | All players will need to send documents |
Why? | To protect against fraud and anti-money laundering |
When? | Between registration and £2,000 (can vary) |
Is it safe? | Yes, all legit online casinos hold your documents safely. |
What documents? | Photo ID, proof of address |
How to send? | Usually there is a portal in ‘my account’, or by email |
Irrespective of what payment method you choose, we should point out you will be asked to prove your identity. This check is known as KYC (know your customer).
It’s a legal requirement for online casinos to request this. If they fail to do so they are subject to huge fines and risk losing their licence, so don’t be put off by this.
The documents you need to send are quite specific. There’s a chance that they won’t be accepted in the first instance. We recommend giving the request a full read over to ensure that your account is verified in the shortest period of time.
Further Requests
Should you go on to deposit thousands of pounds, a source of funds request will be sent too. Again, this is a measure put in place by the licence provider.
It helps protect against money laundering, fraud, underage gambling and corruption. It might seem intrusive, but it is there to help prevent the law from being broken.
Which Payment Method is Best for Online Casinos?
At legit, we like e-wallets like PayPal and Apple Pay. The reason we’ve highlighted these two is that they offer extra layers of security and are easy to get to grips with.
If you want to find out more about a specific method, check out our dedicated pages.
Conclusion
There are plenty of legit ways to fund your online casino account. We recommend having a good look at the options available to you before you decide on which one is best for you.
E-wallets are an excellent option for players looking for secure and fast payment methods. However, they do require you to open an extra account. Apple Pay is growing in popularity and one that we certainly would suggest is worth finding out more about.
As always, before you part with any of your sensitive information, double-check that everything is legit. Play safe.
